What are commercial interior designers going to ask you?

/ What are commercial interior designers going to ask you?

Okay,

Maybe not just in 2023, but you get my drift.

Commercial interior design has more to do with structure, compliance, and functionality. Many are looking toward more eco-friendly designs.

But what about the feeling the space you are designing gives off?

How do we find that one moment when we first walk in and are blown away by perfection?

In all cases, you want to focus on the above categories, but if you are looking to make a splash, ask your client these questions before you begin.

You can thank me later😎

QUESTION 01:

Can you tell me a little about yourself?

MAKE SURE YOUR CLIENT ELABORATES WITH:

Their family, hobbies, likes, dislikes, favorite places to eat (best for visuals on what they like), Outside activities, etc.

This needs to be your first question because it will set the scene for you, and it will make a nice bond between you and the client!

QUESTION 02:

What is not working in the space, currently?

MAKE SURE YOU ELABORATE WITH:

The layout, look, and lighting. When you know what the client doesn’t like you understand which routes to take and help the client’s space function properly.

QUESTION 03:

Will you tell me about your vision of the space you desire?

MAKE SURE YOU ELABORATE WITH:

Showing your client pictures that you have prepared proactively before the meeting of different interior-styled interiors, asking them questions, and understanding what they like and dislike about every picture. Write EVERYTHING down. (the meeting minutes should be documented, dated, and filed digitally after every meeting so you can get back to them at any point in time).

QUESTION 04:

What is the space going to be used for

MAKE SURE YOUR CLIENT ELABORATES WITH:

What happens in the am and what happens in the pm? Different ways the space is utilized will allow you to develop a starting point of what would work best according to the day-to-day. You should know the entire schedule of the space being used.

QUESTION 05:

What are your favorite colors to be surrounded with, and what are your least favorite colors to be surrounded with?

MAKE SURE YOU ELABORATE WITH

Asking them about what kind of base they would like, darker schemes, lighter schemes, etc.

QUESTION 06:

When do you need this project to be delivered?

MAKE SURE YOU ELABORATE WITH:

Your capacity of delivering projects, what you can do within that time frame, and the possibility of needing extra hands on board to help out with the project which means extra cost for them. (in case of an incredibly close deadline).

QUESTION 07:

What is your budget?

MAKE SURE YOUR CLIENT ELABORATES WITH:

Your budget and charges as their designer, fit-out costs, labor, F.F.E. (furniture, furnishings, and equipment), final touches, and accessories.

So obviously, you can ask as many questions as you possibly could need according to your design process, and try to always maintain a good relationship with your client, it feels amazing to be working with people whom you get along with and whom you respect, and who respect you back.
